Oceana’s My Reef Instagram Competition Winners Announced

Oceana in Belize is pleased to announce the winners of its Instagram Competition. We congratulate Andrew Roe for his first place entry—“Pelican heading to roust at South Water Caye.” Through the generosity of anonymous donor,  Andrew takes home a GoPro digital camera.

Second place honors go to Belize City resident Chloe Cruz whose entry “Sharks” earns her a night’s stay at Belize Nirvana hotel in Placencia village, courtesy Barbara and Evan Bull.

Rounding out the top three photographers is Deborah Hamrell of Placencia with her photo taken at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve “Everyone wanted to be in the picture!” Deborah wins a round trip ticket from Belize City to San Pedro courtesy Tropic Air. We thank our generous sponsors and all the participants who submitted photos to the competition. We thank the generous sponsors of our prizes and all the participants who submitted photos for consideration.

Oceana in Belize launched the Instagram competition in early February 2014, asking social media followers to show us how they connect with Belize’s marine resources and what the reef represents to their lives.

The competition is an official activity in Reef Week 2014 which is being celebrated under the theme: Our food, our jobs, our pride and joy! Our Reef!
