People Power and Partnership: Oceana x Tiburon Rum Strengthen their Partnership in 2025
Belize is home to breathtakingly diverse marine ecosystems, including the Belize Barrier Reef—the second largest barrier reef in the world and a composite UNESCO World Heritage Site. For the past five years, Tiburon Rum has been partnering with Oceana in Belize to help protect the country’s precious marine heritage and resources through an innovative relationship that connects conservation to the “Spirit of Belize.”
“There are responsible corporate partners and then there are allies like Tiburon, who go over and beyond, however and wherever they can, to make meaningful impacts that benefit Belize and Belizeans. That they’ve lived up to their commitments to the community, to their employees, and to their friends speaks volumes as to who they are as investors and is testament of their love of Belize.” – Janelle Chanona, Oceana’s Vice President for Belize
Since 2019, Tiburon Rum has donated a dollar from every bottle of rum sold to support Oceana’s work in Belize. This partnership has contributed significantly to our advocacy and reach. Tiburon was instrumental in affecting effective enforcement efforts alongside Oceana in donating a 29 foot, Admiral built marine vessel for use by the Belize Coast Guard(BCG). “Tiburon’s” draft allows the BCG to access shallow waters thereby helping the BCG combat illicit activities, like illegal fishing.
This year, our partnership with Tiburon Rum is diving to new depths. This month, the company launched FIN, marketed as “the only 100% blue agave premium tequila dedicated to Belize”. The new product will follow the same continued commitment to support Oceana’s conservation efforts — with a dollar from each bottle of FIN being donated to support advocacy for marine policies that help to ensure a beautiful and bountiful Caribbean Sea.

“Our partnership with Oceana is fueled by a shared commitment to protect and restore the vital marine ecosystems of Belize. The launch of FIN represents not just a step forward in our collaborative efforts, but a beacon of hope for the future of our oceans. Together, we are inspired to create lasting change for generations to come.” – Basil DeStefano, President, Tiburon Rum Company
Through meaningful relationships with supporters like Tiburon, and alongside the people of Belize, today all 36,182 km2 of Belize’s waters are protected from destructive fishing practices as well as an indefinite moratorium on offshore oil, which safeguard the tens of thousands of livelihoods that depend on Belize’s marine resources.
